Wilson wins first in writing contest Judy Wilson of Petal, a senior at the University of Southern Mississippi, won first place in the Southern Literary Festival short story category for her work, "Portrait," a story about a young girl who is befriended by a nursing home patient she tends. The 1995 Southern Literary Festival was hosted by the University of Mississippi in Oxford recently. UM singers perform at Carnegie Hall Rebecca Brown and Shannon Coleman, both of Petal, recently performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City with the University of Mississippi Concert Singers.
